Petition Garners 250 Signatures on Day One
Partners for Progress, a coalition of groups and individuals supporting the Agreement in Principle to build a resort at Belleayre Mt. and expand the ski center there, began an on-line petition effort yesterday according to its President, Lewis E. Kolar. The petition, which can be accessed by going to http://www.petitiononline.com/SayYes08/petition.html explains why the group is supporting the compromise and attracted 250 signatures in less that a day after its launch.
Kolar indicated that he and others have long believed that the vast majority of those following the issue actually support the compromise deal brokered by Governor Eliot Spitzer but felt they had no platform for voicing that support. “The number of people who jumped on this petition before we even had a chance to announce it demonstrates the strong support this project enjoys,” said Kolar. “We are not here trying to change people’s minds,” he added, we are here to provide accurate information without hysteria and emotion and to provide a way for those who support these efforts to join us.”
Kolar indicated that the group also has a newly designed website and that it will begin to take an active role in the on-going SEQRA process. “We are going to be sure there is a balance of viewpoints in this debate and let our elected officials know there is support for what they are doing.” More Information Return to Press Page
